Lead Scientist - Pharmaceutical Development

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated Lead Scientist to drive innovation within their Pharmaceutical Development department located in Wolverhampton . This leadership role is integral to the formulation, characterization, and scale-up of new drug products. You will lead a team of scientists and technicians, overseeing all aspects of pre-formulation studies, formulation development, and process optimization. Working in a dynamic R&D environment, you will leverage your expertise to ensure the successful transition of drug candidates from discovery to clinical manufacturing, adhering to stringent regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the formulation development of small molecule and/or biologic drug candidates.
• Design and execute pre-formulation studies, stability testing, and analytical characterization of drug products.
• Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for drug substances and drug products, ensuring scalability and robustness.
• Manage and mentor a team of formulation scientists and technicians, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
• Collaborate with project management, regulatory affairs, and manufacturing teams to meet project milestones.
• Ensure all activities comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and relevant regulatory guidelines.

Requirements

• PhD or MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in pharmaceutical research and development, with a focus on formulation.
• Proven experience in leading scientific projects and managing research teams.
• In-depth knowledge of drug delivery systems, formulation strategies, and analytical techniques.
• Experience with process development, scale-up, and technology transfer.
• Strong understanding of GMP regulations and pharmaceutical development lifecycles.
