About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Software Engineer specializing in Cloud Infrastructure to join their growing team in Birmingham . In this critical role, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and maintaining the robust cloud infrastructure that underpins our company's digital services. You will lead a team of talented engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and operational excellence. This position requires a deep understanding of cloud technologies, infrastructure as code, and site reliability engineering principles, playing a key part in ensuring the scalability, security, and availability of our platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of scalable, resilient, and secure cloud infrastructure solutions on platforms like AWS or Azure.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
- Establish and enforce best practices for CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment strategies.
- Oversee system monitoring, alerting, and logging to ensure high availability and rapid incident response.
- Mentor and guide a team of cloud engineers, providing technical direction and fostering their professional growth.
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize application performance and resource utilization within the cloud environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering with a significant focus on cloud infrastructure and operations.
- Proven expertise in managing and orchestrating cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), including services like EC2, S3, RDS, Kubernetes.
- Strong proficiency with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and infrastructure as code tools.
- Demonstrated experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI) and containerization (Docker).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with experience managing a technical team.
