Lead Technical Animator

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Lead Technical Animator to join their innovative team in Oxford . You will be responsible for bridging the gap between animation and programming, developing and optimizing animation systems, tools, and pipelines to ensure high-quality character and creature motion. This role requires a deep understanding of animation principles, rigging, scripting, and real-time engine integration. You will lead a team of technical animators, collaborate with animators and engineers, and play a key role in defining the technical direction of animation for ambitious projects. Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of technical animators, overseeing their work and professional development.
• Develop, implement, and maintain animation systems, tools, and pipelines using scripting languages (e.g., Python, C#).
• Optimize character rigging and animation playback for performance within game engines.
• Collaborate with animators to ensure their work integrates smoothly and meets technical requirements.
• Work closely with engineers to implement and refine animation-specific engine features.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to character animation and rigging.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Technical Animator or similar role in game development.
• Proven experience leading and mentoring technical teams.
• Strong proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, MEL, C#) and experience with animation software (e.g., Maya).
• Deep understanding of character rigging, animation principles, and performance capture.
• Experience working with modern game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity) and their animation systems.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
