Lead VFX Artist - Animation

About the Role

Our client is seeking a visionary Lead VFX Artist to spearhead their visual effects department for animated productions in Birmingham . You will be instrumental in defining the visual style and technical execution of all special effects, ensuring they align with the director's vision and project requirements. This role demands a blend of artistic talent, technical expertise, and leadership skills to guide a team of artists in creating breathtaking visual sequences that elevate the cinematic experience and captivate audiences. You will play a key role in pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling through cutting-edge effects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of VFX artists , providing artistic direction and technical guidance throughout the production pipeline.
• Develop and implement innovative techniques for creating high-quality visual effects, including explosions, magic, environmental phenomena, and more.
• Collaborate closely with directors, art directors, and other department leads to establish and maintain the visual aesthetic.
• Oversee the integration of VFX elements into the final animation, ensuring seamless compositing and rendering.
• Establish and enforce pipeline standards and best practices for VFX asset creation and management.
• Troubleshoot technical challenges and find creative solutions to meet project deadlines and quality targets.

Requirements

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in VFX for animation , with at least 3 years in a lead or supervisory role.
• Proven ability to create a wide range of complex visual effects using industry-standard software (e.g., Houdini, Maya, After Effects).
• Strong understanding of simulation techniques (fluid dynamics, destruction, particles) and rendering processes.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional artistic skill and technical proficiency in VFX.
• Knowledge of compositing and real-time rendering technologies is a plus.
