About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and visionary Lead VFX Artist to guide their visual effects team in Birmingham . This leadership role is crucial for defining and executing the stunning visual effects that bring their game worlds to life. You will oversee a talented team, mentor junior artists, and collaborate closely with art directors and engineers to push the boundaries of visual fidelity. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of VFX artists, providing artistic direction, feedback, and technical guidance.
• Develop and maintain high-quality visual effects (e.g., explosions, magic, environmental effects) across multiple game platforms.
• Collaborate with art directors and technical directors to establish and enforce the visual style and technical standards for VFX.
• Create compelling and performant VFX using particle systems, shaders, and simulation tools.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges related to VFX implementation and performance optimization.
• Oversee the asset creation pipeline for VFX, ensuring efficient workflows and integration into the game engine.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in VFX artistry for video games, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior role.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in creating a wide range of visually stunning and technically sound VFX.
• Proficiency with industry-standard software such as Maya, Houdini, Substance Designer, and game engines (Unreal Engine, Unity).
• Deep understanding of particle systems, shaders, material creation, and real-time rendering techniques.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and motivate a team.
• Experience with performance profiling and optimization for various platforms.
