Learning Disabilities Support Worker

About the Role

Our client is seeking a kind-hearted and patient Learning Disabilities Support Worker to join their dedicated team in Stoke-on-Trent . This role is focused on empowering individuals with learning disabilities to lead fulfilling and independent lives within their community. You will provide practical and emotional support, assisting with daily activities, promoting social inclusion, and supporting personal development. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the needs of individuals with learning disabilities, a commitment to dignity and respect, and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships, making a real difference in the lives of clients in the Staffordshire area.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide person-centred support to individuals with learning disabilities, assisting with personal care, daily routines, and household tasks.
• Encourage and facilitate clients' participation in community activities, hobbies, and social events.
• Support clients in developing life skills, such as cooking, budgeting, and using public transport.
• Promote independence and choice, empowering clients to make decisions about their own lives.
• Observe and report on clients' progress, well-being, and any changes in behaviour or health.
• Work collaboratively with families, carers, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to care.

Requirements

• Previous experience working with individuals with learning disabilities is highly preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with diverse individuals.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support others.
• Understanding of safeguarding principles and promoting equality and diversity.
• Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-in duties if required.
• Relevant qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care) are a plus.
