Legal Counsel - Commercial Litigation

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Legal Counsel with a strong background in commercial litigation to join their established legal department in Birmingham, West Midlands . This role is integral to managing and resolving a wide array of commercial disputes, ensuring the company's legal interests are robustly defended. You will handle cases from inception through to resolution, working closely with internal teams and external counsel. The ideal candidate will possess excellent analytical skills and a pragmatic approach to dispute resolution, contributing to a high-performing legal function that supports the business's operational success and strategic goals within the competitive UK market.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of commercial litigation matters, including breach of contract, intellectual property disputes, and regulatory challenges.
• Develop case strategies, conduct legal research, and draft pleadings, motions, and other court documents.
• Represent the company in mediations, arbitrations, and court proceedings as required.
• Liaise effectively with external solicitors, barristers, and expert witnesses.
• Provide proactive advice to business units to mitigate litigation risks and prevent future disputes.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all litigation activities and outcomes.

Requirements

• A qualified solicitor or barrister with at least 5 years of experience specializing in commercial litigation.
• Proven track record of successfully managing complex litigation cases within the UK legal system.
• Thorough understanding of civil procedure rules and litigation best practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting complex legal arguments clearly.
