Legal Counsel - Data Privacy

About the Role

Our client, a leading international financial services organisation, is seeking a dedicated Legal Counsel specializing in Data Privacy to join their fully remote legal team. This critical role will involve overseeing the company's global data privacy compliance strategy, advising on data protection laws, and managing data breach incidents. You will work closely with IT, security, and business teams to ensure best practices are implemented across all operations. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive data privacy policies and procedures aligned with GDPR, CCPA, and other global regulations.
• Provide expert legal advice on data processing activities, data sharing agreements, and international data transfers.
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and advise on risk mitigation strategies.
• Manage and respond to data subject access requests (DSARs) and regulatory inquiries.
• Lead the investigation and response process for any data breaches, ensuring timely notification to authorities and affected individuals.
• Train and advise internal stakeholders on data privacy best practices and legal requirements.

Requirements

• Qualified Solicitor or equivalent legal professional with a minimum of 5 years' post-qualification experience.
• Extensive expertise in data privacy law and global data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
• Proven experience in advising on data processing agreements, DPIAs, and DSARs.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience in the financial services sector is a significant advantage.
