Livestock Manager

About the Role

Our client is seeking a seasoned and compassionate Livestock Manager to oversee the welfare and productivity of their herds and flocks at their farm based in Belfast, Northern Ireland . This hands-on role requires a deep understanding of animal husbandry, health, and breeding practices, along with strong leadership and operational management skills. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare, optimizing breeding programs, managing feed supply, and supervising a dedicated team of farmhands. This is a critical position within our client's Agriculture & Forestry operations, contributing directly to the quality and success of their livestock enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day care and welfare of all livestock, ensuring adherence to best practices in animal husbandry.
• Oversee breeding programs to maximize fertility rates and genetic improvements within the herds/flocks.
• Monitor animal health, implement preventative healthcare measures, and liaise with veterinary professionals when necessary.
• Manage the procurement, storage, and distribution of feed and supplements, ensuring optimal nutrition for all animals.
• Supervise, train, and schedule farm staff involved in livestock management, fostering a safe and efficient working environment.
• Maintain accurate records of animal health, breeding, feeding, and production data.

Requirements

• Significant practical experience in livestock management , with a strong understanding of animal welfare and production systems.
• Demonstrated experience in managing breeding programs and improving herd/flock genetics.
• Knowledge of common livestock diseases and preventative health measures.
• Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of farm workers.
• Excellent record-keeping and organizational skills.
• A qualification in Agriculture, Animal Science, or a related field is preferred.
