Livestock Manager

About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated and experienced Livestock Manager to oversee the health, welfare, and productivity of their animals at a farm located in Plymouth, Devon . This critical role involves managing all aspects of livestock operations, from feeding and breeding programs to health monitoring and ensuring compliance with welfare standards. The successful candidate will lead a small team, implement best practices, and contribute to the overall success of the farming enterprise. Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily feeding, watering, and care routines for all livestock.
• Implement and oversee breeding programs to optimize herd/flock performance.
• Monitor animal health, identify signs of illness, and administer basic treatments or coordinate with veterinarians.
• Ensure all livestock welfare standards and regulatory requirements are met and maintained.
• Maintain accurate records of animal health, breeding, feeding, and production.
• Supervise and train livestock handlers, ensuring efficient and safe working practices.
• Manage the maintenance and cleanliness of animal housing and associated facilities.

Requirements

• Proven experience in managing livestock operations, with specific knowledge of the relevant animal types (e.g., cattle, sheep, pigs).
• Strong understanding of animal husbandry, nutrition, and reproduction.
• Experience in recognizing and treating common livestock ailments.
• Excellent animal handling skills and a commitment to animal welfare.
• Good leadership and communication abilities.
• Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records.
