Job overview
The postholder will be expected to support the implementation of the Aspirant Cancer Career and Education Development (ACCEND) programme. Support will be given to enable implementation of this national programme.
You will also be required to support the development and implementation of Clinical Skills in cancer care, aligned to the ACCEND educational offers and Trust policies and guidelines, working as part of the Education Faculty to achieve a cohesive and comprehensive approach to Clinical Education across the Trust
You will be part of the Simulation Faculty to facilitate training, promoting and adhering to the principles of improving individual skills, handling of emergencies and human factors within cancer care, utilising Subject matter experts as appropriate.
Work closely with Patient Safety and Clinical Governance team to monitor and critically analyse incident reports to identify themes/trends and initiate remedial action as required to reduce and prevent reoccurrence.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will support the development and implementation of Clinical Skills in cancer care, aligned to the ACCEND educational offers and Trust policies and guidelines
Contribute to the delivery of educational programmes related to cancer and palliative care in addition to support the education team in evaluating the effectiveness of learning activities and support redesign programmes to meet the organisational needs, using the ACCEND framework as a tool to implement.
Support the education and training of multidisciplinary groups of staff on core, essential and job specific clinical skills. To support practice educators, matrons and ward managers in the development and delivery of high standards of patient focused, evidence-based care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Under the leadership of the Associate Director of Clinical Education, you will use your initiative, analytical skills and judgement to ensure a quality learning environment is maintained. At all times, you will work in accordance with the principles governed by your professional registered body i.e. Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC), Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Trust Policies.
Contribute to the delivery of educational programmes related to cancer and palliative care in addition to support the education team in evaluating the effectiveness of learning activities and support redesign programmes to meet the organisational needs, using the ACCEND framework as a tool to implement.
You will be required to Identify and promote evidence-based simulation and clinical skills within the Trust, through implementation and facilitation of classroom and clinically based teaching/ education, to ensure that all staff groups are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles competently in cancer care.
The postholder will undertake audits and assist in the development of professional educational policies, standards, and best practice guidelines, aligned to the ACCEND programme.
Person specification
Qualifications/Training and professional development
- Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC register or clinical professional registered with the HCPC
- Supervisor and assessor training or equivalent and maintains regular updates
- Degree in relevant field
- To undertake additional educational (postgraduate level) and practical training courses.
- Breadth of competency and experience in clinical procedural skills
- Postgraduate certificate in education or equivalent
Experience
- Broad range of post qualifying clinical experience in an acute hospital setting
- Recent experience of working with students in an acute setting
- Experience of teaching, supervising and assessing a range of learners in the practice setting – relevant to this role – cancer and palliative care
- Knowledge of different methods/styles for teaching and learning, including the use of simulation
- Current clinical credibility at senior level
- Detailed understanding of the delivery of clinical skills training including the use of simulation
Skills, abilities, and knowledge
- Confident and calm attitude with an ability to work under pressure
- Working knowledge of inter-professional learning theory
- Ability to teach, assess and supervise others
- Knowledge of pre-registration Health Science programmes and professional bodies (NMC and HCPC) standards relating to education
- Advanced Microsoft Office Skill (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Ability to work autonomously setting own targets and measuring performance against these targets
- Knowledge and understanding of the ACCEND programme – full induction will be given to support this process
- Understanding of project management requirements
