Job Description
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Maintenance Engineer - Electrical Bias to join a well-established manufacturing and engineering business based in Barnsley.
This is a hands-on role where you will be responsible for keeping a wide range of electrical and mechanical plant, machinery and equipment operating safely and efficiently. You will play a key role in reducing downtime, carrying out preventative maintenance and responding to breakdowns across a busy industrial environment.
The Role
As a Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for:
Carrying out planned preventative maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment. Diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical faults. Reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical drawings. Carrying out electrical maintenance and repairs in line with relevant standards. Replacing bearings, gears and other mechanical components. Maintaining and repairing overhead cranes and jib cranes. Working on plasma and gas cutting machinery. Maintaining saws, drilling equipment, welders and grinders. Maintaining forklifts, sideloaders and other site equipment. Responding to breakdowns and restoring machinery to service as quickly and safely as possible. Identifying recurring faults and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Organising and coordinating external subcontractors where required. Maintaining accurate maintenance records and documentation. Working independently and taking ownership of maintenance tasks through to completion. Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with site Health & Safety procedures and safe working practices.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Engineer with a strong electrical background and good mechanical maintenance skills.
You will ideally have:
NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. 18th Edition Wiring Regulations. Previous experience in an industrial, manufacturing, engineering or heavy fabrication environment. Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills. Good mechanical fault-finding and repair experience. The ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings. Experience working on industrial machinery and plant. Experience changing bearings, gears and other mechanical components. A proactive approach to maintenance and problem solving. The ability to work independently and use your own initiative. A strong commitment to Health & Safety.
Desirable Experience
Experience working with the following would be particularly advantageous:
Overhead cranes and jib cranes Plasma cutting machinery Gas cutting equipment Industrial saws and drilling machinery Welding and grinding equipment Forklifts and sideloaders Heavy engineering or structural steel machinery Industrial electrical control systems Motors, drives and control panels PPM and maintenance management systems
