Job Description
MULTI-SKILLED MAINTENANCE ENGINEER
Location: Hemel Hempstead, with occasional travel to Covent Garden, Milton Keynes and Loughborough
Salary: £38,000 - £40,000
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Travel: Expenses paid when supporting sites outside Hemel Hempstead
ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for an experienced Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our Facilities Management engineering team.
Primarily based at our client site in Hemel Hempstead, you’ll carry out planned and reactive maintenance across a range of building services, helping to keep the site safe, compliant and operating effectively.
This is a varied, hands-on position where you’ll use your core engineering skills alongside broader knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and electrical building systems.
You don’t need to be an expert in every trade. We’re looking for someone with a solid engineering background who is comfortable working across building services, understands the limits of their own competency and is confident escalating work when specialist support is required.
Hemel Hempstead will be your main base, with occasional travel to our other sites in Covent Garden, Milton Keynes and Loughborough. Travel expenses will be covered when supporting these additional locations.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
You’ll carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and respond to reactive maintenance requests, taking jobs from initial report through to completion.
Your work will involve fault finding and resolving mechanical and general building-services issues, alongside maintenance across plumbing, HVAC, plant and associated electrical systems. You’ll also carry out minor installations, repairs, remedial works and compliance-related maintenance within your competency.
You’ll maintain accurate job and maintenance records using Infraspeak and keep the client and Facilities Management team informed of completed works and outstanding actions.
You’ll also support and supervise specialist subcontractors, review RAMS, monitor safe working practices and verify completed contractor works.
A key part of the role will be working around the client’s operational requirements, helping to minimise disruption while identifying opportunities to improve building systems, processes and reliability.
Where work falls outside your competency, you’ll have the support to escalate it to the Engineering Team Leader or Facilities Manager so the appropriate specialist support can be arranged.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
You’ll have previous experience within Facilities Management, commercial building maintenance or building services, along with a recognised Level 3 engineering qualification.
This could include a Level 3 qualification in plumbing, gas, mechanical engineering or another relevant building-services discipline.
You’ll need good knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical systems within commercial buildings, experience of planned and reactive maintenance and strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
Experience across HVAC, plumbing, plant, pumps, mechanical systems and general M&E maintenance would be particularly beneficial.
You’ll also need to be comfortable working independently, taking ownership of maintenance issues and communicating professionally with clients and colleagues.
YOUR TEAM
You’ll join a small and experienced engineering team based at Hemel Hempstead.
The team is led by a Multi-Skilled Engineering Team Leader with an electrical bias, with engineers working together across electrical, mechanical and wider building-services maintenance.
You’ll have the freedom to manage your own workload while having experienced technical and operational support available when you need it. You’ll also work closely with the wider Facilities Management team and specialist subcontractors.
ON-CALL
The Hemel Hempstead site operates an out-of-hours callout rota currently shared between four members of the team.
On-call is covered for one week at a time outside normal business hours at the Hemel Hempstead site.
Joining the rota is a possibility as part of this role; however, this can be discussed if participating in on-call isn’t something you’re looking to do.
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
We actively encourage our engineers to continue developing their technical knowledge and careers.
The existing team has been given opportunities to complete additional training including leadership development, IOSH Health & Safety training, technical qualifications, electrical Inspection and Testing and EV installation courses.
Whether you’re looking to broaden your technical capabilities or develop towards a future leadership position, we’ll support your continued development.
WHY JOIN US?
This role offers the variety of multi-skilled Facilities Management engineering while providing the stability of being primarily based at one site.
You’ll receive a salary of £38,000 - £40,000, Monday to Friday working, expenses when supporting other locations, ongoing training and development and the support of an established engineering team.
If you’re a qualified Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer who enjoys solving problems, taking ownership of your work and delivering a professional service to clients, we’d love to hear from you
