Maintenance Operative / Handyman
Leicester
£14.50 - £15.50
Monday to Friday: 8am - 5pm
Engineering @ 365 is recruiting on behalf of a well-established organisation that is looking for an experienced Maintenance Operative to join their Facilities team.
This is a varied role suited to someone with a practical maintenance background who is confident carrying out general building repairs, enjoys working independently, and takes pride in maintaining safe, clean and well-presented properties.
The Role
As a Maintenance Operative, you will be responsible for carrying out general maintenance, repairs and inspections across the property, ensuring buildings, communal areas and grounds are maintained to a high standard.
You will also work closely with residents, contractors and the wider site team to ensure maintenance issues are dealt with promptly and professionally.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out general building maintenance and repairs
* Complete basic plumbing, electrical, decorating and carpentry work
* Respond to maintenance requests and resolve issues promptly
* Carry out routine building inspections
* Ensure fire safety, security and maintenance checks are completed
* Identify and respond to health and safety issues
* Maintain accurate property maintenance records
* Assist with communal area cleaning and waste disposal
* Ensure communal areas are kept clean, safe and well maintained
* Coordinate and supervise external contractors where required
* Ensure tools, equipment and maintenance supplies are stored correctly
* Maintain the grounds, ensuring they are clean, tidy and hazard free
* Respond to out-of-hours maintenance calls and emergencies when required
* Escalate specialist maintenance issues to the appropriate contractors
* Support the wider site team with the smooth running of the property
* Communicate professionally with residents when carrying out maintenance work
Requirements
* Previous experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance or a similar role
* Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrics, painting and general building repairs
* Good understanding of health and safety requirements
* Strong practical and problem-solving skills
* Good level of written and spoken English
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritise maintenance tasks
* Friendly and approachable manner
Desirable
* Experience within student accommodation, hospitality or residential property management
* Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
* Formal maintenance, facilities management or health & safety qualifications
