About the Role
Our client, a leading marine services provider, is seeking a qualified Marine Engineer to join their operations supporting offshore activities based out of Plymouth, Devon . This role involves the maintenance, repair, and operation of vessel engines and associated mechanical systems critical for offshore support operations. You will be responsible for ensuring the seaworthiness and operational efficiency of the fleet, working in a challenging maritime environment. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced marine engineer to contribute to vital offshore projects while being part of a reputable organisation operating from the strategic hub of Plymouth .
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of marine diesel engines, generators, and auxiliary machinery.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on vessel propulsion systems, steering gear, and hydraulic equipment.
- Ensure all engine room operations comply with maritime regulations and safety standards (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL).
- Monitor engine performance, fuel consumption, and emissions, implementing adjustments for optimal efficiency.
- Manage inventory of spare parts and consumables for the engine department.
- Respond to emergency situations at sea, diagnosing and resolving mechanical failures.
Requirements
- Class 2 Engineer (Second Engineer) CoC (Certificate of Competency) or equivalent recognized marine engineering qualification.
- Proven experience as a Marine Engineer, preferably with exposure to offshore support vessels or similar commercial marine operations.
- Strong knowledge of marine diesel engines, power generation, and associated systems.
- Familiarity with maritime safety regulations and environmental compliance.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a demanding sea environment.
- Good understanding of electrical systems found on vessels.
