Marine Engineering Technician

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Marine Engineering Technician to support their operations in the maritime sector based in Plymouth . This hands-on role involves the maintenance, repair, and installation of marine propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, and associated equipment. You will work on a variety of vessels, ensuring optimal performance and safety standards are met. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, experience with marine systems, and a commitment to quality workmanship in a demanding, often challenging, dockside environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and inspections on marine engines and mechanical systems.
• Diagnose and repair faults in propulsion systems, generators, and hydraulics.
• Assist with the installation of new marine equipment and components.
• Conduct pre- and post-maintenance testing to ensure system integrity.
• Maintain detailed records of work performed, parts used, and service recommendations.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant marine safety and environmental regulations.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Marine Engineering Technician or in a similar mechanical engineering role within the marine industry.
• Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and general mechanical principles.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and workshop equipment.
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Relevant technical qualifications (e.g., HND/HNC in Marine Engineering) are advantageous.
