Job Description
Role Summary
The successful candidate will act as Mechanical Chargehand on a substation project, supervising the installation, testing and commissioning of Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) up to 400kV. The role involves leading a team on site, ensuring works are carried out safely, to programme, and to the required quality standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate primary installation activities on GIS switchgear up to 400kV
- Allocate daily tasks and manage a team of electrical/mechanical operatives
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with site RAMS and safe systems of work
- Liaise with site management, client representatives and other trades
- Monitor progress against programme and report on works completed
- Ensure quality control and compliance with relevant technical standards
- Promote and enforce a strong health & safety culture on site
Requirements
Essential Requirements
- GIS experience up to 400kV
- CSCS card
- SSSTS
- Previous chargehand/supervisory experience on substation projects
- Ability to read and work from technical/electrical drawings
- Must operate via a LTD company
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable
- National Grid experience
- Wider substation/primary jointing experience
Health & Safety
- Valid CSCS card
- SSSTS certification
- Full PPE required (provided items to be confirmed on site induction)
- Compliance with all site-specific health & safety inductions and RAMS is mandatory
