Mechanical Chargehand

Role Summary

The successful candidate will act as Mechanical Chargehand on a substation project, supervising the installation, testing and commissioning of Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) up to 400kV. The role involves leading a team on site, ensuring works are carried out safely, to programme, and to the required quality standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate primary installation activities on GIS switchgear up to 400kV

• Allocate daily tasks and manage a team of electrical/mechanical operatives

• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with site RAMS and safe systems of work

• Liaise with site management, client representatives and other trades

• Monitor progress against programme and report on works completed

• Ensure quality control and compliance with relevant technical standards

• Promote and enforce a strong health & safety culture on site

Requirements

Essential Requirements

• GIS experience up to 400kV

• CSCS card

• SSSTS

• Previous chargehand/supervisory experience on substation projects

• Ability to read and work from technical/electrical drawings

• Must operate via a LTD company

• Right to work in the UK

Desirable

• National Grid experience

• Wider substation/primary jointing experience

Health & Safety

• Valid CSCS card

• SSSTS certification

• Full PPE required (provided items to be confirmed on site induction)

• Compliance with all site-specific health & safety inductions and RAMS is mandatory
