Mechanical Design Engineer - Automotive

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer with a specialization in the automotive sector to join their dynamic team in Sheffield . This role focuses on the design and development of critical mechanical components for next-generation vehicles. You will be involved in all phases of the design process, from concept generation and detailed design to prototyping and testing, ensuring components meet rigorous automotive standards. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of automotive engineering principles, proficiency in relevant CAD tools, and a passion for automotive innovation, contributing to a leading company in South Yorkshire.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and systems for automotive applications using CAD software .
• Perform stress, thermal, and vibration analysis to ensure component durability and performance.
• Create detailed manufacturing drawings, tolerancing, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including vehicle integration, manufacturing, and CAE departments.
• Support prototype build activities and conduct component testing.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant automotive standards (e.g., IATF 16949).

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design , preferably within the automotive industry.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) and FEA tools .
• Good understanding of automotive materials, manufacturing processes, and DFM/DFA principles.
• Experience with product data management (PDM) systems is desirable.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
