Mechanical Design Engineer - Consumer Electronics

About the Role

Our client, an innovative leader in consumer electronics design, is seeking a creative and driven Mechanical Design Engineer to join their fully remote team, with operational ties to Norwich . This role is crucial for designing and developing the next generation of sophisticated consumer electronic devices. You will be responsible for the mechanical aspects of product design, from initial concept through to mass production, working in a fast-paced, agile environment. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop aesthetically pleasing and functionally robust mechanical enclosures and internal structures for consumer electronic devices using 3D CAD software.
• Perform analysis for thermal management, structural integrity, drop testing, and vibration resistance.
• Collaborate closely with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and firmware developers to integrate mechanical solutions seamlessly.
• Create detailed design documentation, including 3D models, 2D drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs), for manufacturing.
• Work with overseas manufacturing partners to oversee tooling development, pilot runs, and mass production, ensuring quality and timelines are met.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical design issues during development and production phases.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 3-7 years of experience in mechanical design, with a strong portfolio in consumer electronics or similar fast-moving product design.
• Expertise in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Pro/ENGINEER) and knowledge of Moldflow or similar simulation tools.
• Familiarity with a wide range of manufacturing processes, including injection molding, metal stamping, and assembly automation.
• Excellent understanding of materials commonly used in consumer electronics (plastics, metals).
• Strong communication skills and experience collaborating effectively in a remote team environment.
