Mechanical Design Engineer - Rotating Equipment

About the Role

Our client, a specialist in the design and manufacture of high-performance rotating equipment, is seeking a dedicated Mechanical Design Engineer for their facility in Stoke-on-Trent . This role focuses on the detailed design, analysis, and development of pumps, compressors, and turbines. You will be part of a highly skilled engineering team responsible for creating robust and efficient machinery solutions for demanding industrial applications. The ideal candidate will have a passion for precision engineering and a thorough understanding of dynamic systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop detailed mechanical drawings and 3D models for rotating equipment, such as pumps, turbines, and compressors.
• Perform complex engineering calculations, including stress, vibration, and fatigue analysis, using specialized software.
• Specify materials, bearings, seals, and other critical components for rotating machinery.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to ensure designs are optimized for production and assembly.
• Conduct performance testing and analysis of prototypes and production units, documenting findings and recommending improvements.
• Provide technical support to sales, service, and customer support teams regarding equipment design and application.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the mechanical design of rotating equipment.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) and FEA/CFD analysis tools.
• Strong knowledge of tribology, rotor dynamics, and sealing technology.
• Experience with manufacturing processes relevant to high-precision components.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively within a project team.
