About the Role
Our client, a specialist manufacturer of marine and offshore equipment, is seeking a meticulous Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Plymouth . This role involves the design and development of robust mechanical systems and components tailored for harsh marine environments. You will work on innovative solutions, collaborating with naval architects, engineers, and production teams to deliver high-quality, reliable products. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of materials, structural integrity, and the unique challenges of engineering for the maritime sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for marine mechanical systems and equipment using CAD software.
- Perform structural analysis, stress calculations, and material selection to ensure design integrity and durability.
- Develop designs for components such as propulsion systems, deck machinery, and piping systems.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and fabrication teams to ensure designs are suitable for production and meet quality standards.
- Participate in prototype testing and validation, analyzing results and implementing design improvements.
- Maintain and update technical documentation, including design records and specifications for equipment in Plymouth .
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design, with exposure to marine or offshore industries being advantageous.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and basic engineering analysis tools.
- Good understanding of material properties, corrosion resistance, and fabrication techniques relevant to marine applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to design challenges.
