Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a motivated and skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join their established engineering department in Southampton . This role is centered on the design, development, and refinement of mechanical components and systems for a range of industrial applications. You will work within a dedicated team, contributing to projects from initial concept through to detailed design and production support. This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer looking to apply their design skills in a hands-on, office-based role, contributing to tangible product development.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical parts and assemblies using 3D CAD software.
• Create detailed engineering drawings, including tolerances and material specifications.
• Perform basic stress, thermal, and motion analysis to ensure design integrity.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and procurement teams to ensure designs are cost-effective and manufacturable.
• Support the resolution of design-related issues during the production and assembly phases.
• Maintain and update design documentation, including BOMs and technical reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• 2-5 years of experience in mechanical design and CAD modeling.
• Proficiency in using 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks or Inventor.
• Understanding of common manufacturing processes and materials.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Good communication and teamwork skills, with a proactive attitude towards problem-solving.
