Mechanical Design Engineer
Derby | £40,000 – £50,000 | Permanent
White Label Recruitment are working with an established engineering and manufacturing business in Derby who are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing engineering team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in heavy machinery, rail, transportation equipment or complex engineered products. You will be involved in the design and development of mechanical systems and components across new build, refurbishment and aftermarket projects.
You will work closely with manufacturing, electrical engineering and project teams, taking designs from concept through to detailed manufacture.
The Role
* Develop detailed mechanical designs and 3D CAD models for complex machinery, components and associated systems.
* Produce manufacturing drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
* Take designs from initial requirements through detailed design and into manufacture.
* Carry out engineering calculations, stress analysis and FEA to validate designs.
* Work closely with manufacturing to ensure designs are practical, achievable and cost-effective.
* Collaborate with electrical, project and service teams on multidisciplinary engineering projects.
* Support design reviews, engineering approvals and change control.
* Select appropriate materials, components and manufacturing methods.
* Troubleshoot and resolve design issues during manufacture, assembly, testing and service.
* Contribute to continuous improvement, standardisation and engineering best practice.
What We're Looking For
* Mechanical design experience within rail, heavy machinery, transportation equipment or a similar heavy engineering environment.
* Strong 3D CAD skills using Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo or similar.
* Experience producing detailed engineering and manufacturing drawings.
* Good understanding of mechanical systems, materials and manufacturing processes.
* Experience with stress calculations, FEA or engineering simulation.
* Ability to design with manufacturability, cost, reliability and safety in mind.
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
* Experience working closely with manufacturing and other engineering disciplines.
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Rail experience would be advantageous, but applications are welcomed from engineers with transferable experience designing large-scale, complex or heavy mechanical equipment.
Package & Benefits
* Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 depending on experience
* Hours: 37 hours per week
* Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 4:30pm
* Friday: 8:00am – 1:00pm
* Holiday: 25 days plus 8 bank holidays
* Pension: 3% employer / 5% employee contribution
* Death in service: 2x gross basic annual salary from day one
* Enhanced company sick pay following successful completion of probation
