About the Role
Our client is looking for a diligent and creative Mechanical Design Engineer to join their established team in Portsmouth . This role is crucial for the development and refinement of innovative mechanical systems and components. You will be involved in the entire design lifecycle, from initial concept generation and feasibility studies through to detailed design, prototyping, and testing. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of mechanical principles, proficiency in CAD software, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop new mechanical parts and assemblies using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
- Create detailed 2D manufacturing drawings, 3D models, and comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Conduct initial feasibility studies and conceptual design work for new product ideas.
- Perform basic stress analysis and tolerance stack-up calculations to ensure design integrity.
- Collaborate with the production team to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
- Assist in the assembly and testing of prototypes, documenting results and making necessary design modifications.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 2-4 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in a product development context.
- Proficiency with at least one major 3D CAD software package.
- Understanding of basic engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
