Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Mechanical Design Engineer to join their established engineering department located in Portsmouth . This role is crucial for the ongoing design, development, and improvement of mechanical systems and products that meet rigorous industry standards. You will be part of a team focused on innovation and quality, working hands-on with design tools and manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving within a collaborative, on-site team environment in Hampshire .

Key Responsibilities

• Create detailed 2D and 3D designs and technical drawings for mechanical components and assemblies using CAD software .
• Perform engineering calculations and simulations to ensure designs meet strength, performance, and safety requirements.
• Collaborate with production and assembly teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
• Support the testing, validation, and implementation of new designs and product modifications.
• Investigate and resolve design-related issues that arise in manufacturing or during product use.
• Maintain accurate product data management, including BOMs and design history files.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
• Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in mechanical design.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks , CATIA, or similar.
• Experience with engineering analysis tools (e.g., FEA) is advantageous.
• Understanding of various manufacturing techniques and material properties.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving capabilities.
