Mechanical Engineer - Automotive Systems

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineer with a focus on automotive systems to join their innovation hub in Birmingham . This role is critical for designing and developing next-generation powertrain and chassis components. You will work within a collaborative engineering environment, contributing to projects that push the boundaries of automotive technology. The ideal candidate possesses a strong foundation in mechanical principles and a passion for the automotive industry, aiming to develop robust and efficient engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and systems for automotive applications, including engine, transmission, and suspension systems.
• Perform detailed engineering calculations and simulations, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) , to validate designs.
• Create and manage technical documentation, including CAD models, drawings, and specifications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers and software developers, on integrated system design.
• Support prototype builds, conduct rigorous testing, and analyze results to ensure performance and reliability standards are met.
• Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues encountered during development and production phases.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience in the automotive sector, with a focus on mechanical system design.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, Siemens NX) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus).
• Solid understanding of vehicle dynamics, thermodynamics, and material science relevant to automotive applications.
• Experience with DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly) principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with excellent attention to detail.
