About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Fitter to join their established engineering team in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, UK . This position is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and installation of mechanical equipment across their manufacturing facilities. You will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of plant machinery, contributing directly to production output and operational continuity. The successful candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of work in a challenging industrial setting. Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections and maintenance on mechanical systems, including pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, and hydraulic systems.
• Dismantle, repair, and reassemble mechanical equipment, ensuring all parts are within specified tolerances.
• Install new machinery and equipment, ensuring correct alignment and function.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and failures, utilising appropriate tools and techniques to identify root causes.
• Fabricate or modify parts as needed using workshop equipment such as lathes and milling machines.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure adequate stock levels of spare parts.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter or similar mechanical engineering role.
• Strong understanding of mechanical principles, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and power transmission.
• Proficiency in using hand and power tools, as well as workshop machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical manuals.
• Experience working in a manufacturing or heavy industry environment.
