Medicinal Chemist - Small Molecule Discovery

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented and innovative Medicinal Chemist to join their dynamic drug discovery team in Glasgow . This role focuses on the design, synthesis, and optimization of novel small molecule drug candidates for challenging therapeutic targets. You will work at the forefront of chemical biology, employing creative synthetic strategies and modern techniques to deliver compounds with desirable pharmacological and pharmacokinetic properties. Key Responsibilities

• Design and synthesize novel small molecules using a range of organic chemistry techniques, with a focus on Structure-Activity Relationships (SAR).
• Optimize lead compounds to improve potency, selectivity, pharmacokinetic properties, and safety profiles.
• Collaborate with biologists and pharmacologists to design and interpret assays that assess compound activity and mechanism of action.
• Utilize computational chemistry tools and databases to aid in compound design and data analysis.
• Troubleshoot synthetic routes and develop scalable synthesis plans for promising drug candidates.
• Present research findings clearly and concisely at internal team meetings and project reviews.

Requirements

• PhD in Organic or Medicinal Chemistry.
• Post-doctoral experience or a minimum of 3 years of industry experience in medicinal chemistry.
• Strong track record in synthetic organic chemistry, including expertise in modern synthetic methodologies.
• Experience in designing and optimizing small molecules for therapeutic targets.
• Familiarity with physicochemical properties, ADME considerations, and in vitro/in vivo testing paradigms.
