Mentor For Students With Mental Health Difficulties

We are currently seeking a resilient, patient and committed Behaviour Support Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Bolton, supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who can build positive relationships with young people, provide consistency and clear boundaries, and help pupils engage positively with education.

The Role

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will:

Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.

Support pupils to engage positively with learning, routines and school life.

Help manage behaviour using positive and consistent approaches.

Support with de-escalation when pupils become dysregulated or distressed.

Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and act as a positive role model.

Encourage pupils to develop confidence, resilience and appropriate behaviours.

Work closely with teaching, pastoral and support staff to provide consistent support.

Help pupils overcome barriers to learning and make progress.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural or additional needs.

Is calm, patient and confident when dealing with challenging situations.

Can build strong and trusting relationships with young people.

Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Is resilient and able to remain calm under pressure.

Can establish clear boundaries while maintaining a nurturing and supportive approach.

Is proactive, reliable and committed to helping young people succeed.

Previous experience within a school or specialist education setting is desirable. Transferable experience from youth work, care, residential support, mentoring, sports coaching or similar environments may also be considered.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
