Mine Planning Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Mine Planning Engineer to join their team in Reading . This role is responsible for developing short-term and long-term mine plans that optimize resource recovery, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. You will work closely with geologists, surveyors, and operations teams to translate resource models into actionable mining schedules and designs. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills in mine design software, a thorough understanding of mining methods, and the ability to forecast operational needs and challenges. This position offers a vital contribution to the strategic direction and execution of mining projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop integrated mine plans, including pit designs, road networks, and production schedules, for open-pit or underground operations.
• Utilize mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Xact) to create detailed 3D models and optimize extraction sequences.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new mining phases or projects.
• Collaborate with operations, geomechanics, and metallurgy to ensure plans are practical and meet all technical requirements.
• Monitor plan execution, identify deviations, and implement necessary adjustments to schedules and designs.
• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for management review.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in mine planning and design.
• Proficiency with industry-standard mine planning software packages.
• Solid understanding of mining methods, geomechanics, and production optimization principles.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet demanding deadlines.
