About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and vigilant Mine Safety Officer to join their team in Belfast . This vital role focuses on ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all personnel within the mining operations. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing safety policies and procedures, conducting regular inspections, and providing safety training. The ideal candidate will have a proactive approach to risk management and a strong commitment to fostering a robust safety culture throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety management systems for mining operations.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs to all employees and contractors.
• Advise management on all matters relating to health, safety, and environmental legislation and best practices.
• Promote a positive safety culture through engagement, communication, and leadership.

Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, NVQ Level 4/5).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar safety role, preferably within the mining or heavy industrial sector.
• In-depth knowledge of UK health and safety legislation relevant to the mining industry.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to conduct effective risk assessments and hazard analyses.
• Proficiency in safety management software and reporting tools.
