Mine Safety Officer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a vigilant and proactive Mine Safety Officer to join their operations near Reading . This role is paramount in ensuring the health and safety of all personnel on-site, maintaining a robust safety culture, and ensuring full compliance with all legislative requirements. You will be responsible for conducting safety inspections, hazard identification, risk assessments, and implementing effective safety procedures and training programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety, excellent observational skills, and the ability to enforce safety protocols effectively within a demanding mining environment .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety management systems.
• Conduct regular site safety inspections, audits, and hazard identification assessments.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, reporting findings and recommending corrective actions.
• Deliver safety training programs and toolbox talks to all site personnel.
• Ensure compliance with all statutory health and safety regulations and company policies.
• Promote a positive safety culture throughout the workforce and act as a key advisor on safety matters.

Requirements

• Recognized qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
• Thorough knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and mining regulations.
• Excellent communication, reporting, and presentation skills.
• Ability to influence and engage personnel at all levels.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
