About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and vigilant Mine Safety Officer to ensure the highest standards of health and safety are maintained across their mining operations near Sunderland . This critical role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation. You will conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and training sessions, fostering a proactive safety culture amongst all personnel. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety management systems for the mine site.
• Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs to all levels of mine personnel.
• Advise management on health and safety legislation, best practices, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Promote and champion a strong safety culture throughout the operational environment in Sunderland .

Requirements

• NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent in Occupational Health and Safety.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a dedicated health and safety role, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
• Thorough knowledge of UK health and safety legislation relevant to mining operations.
• Experience in conducting risk assessments, accident investigations, and safety audits.
• Strong communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively on-site in a challenging environment near Sunderland .
