Mine Safety Officer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated and proactive Mine Safety Officer to join their team in the Reading area, supporting operations across various sites. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance within mining activities. You will develop, implement, and monitor safety procedures, conduct risk assessments, and provide training to safeguard personnel and the environment. This role is pivotal in maintaining a strong safety culture and preventing incidents within potentially hazardous mining environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive mine safety policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs for all site personnel.
• Maintain safety records and prepare HSE reports for management and regulatory bodies.
• Advise management on all aspects of mine health and safety regulations.

Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH) or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a safety role, preferably within the mining or construction industry.
• In-depth knowledge of UK mining health and safety legislation.
• Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and implement effective control measures.
• Must be based in or able to commute to the Reading area and travel to various mine sites as needed.
