Mine Safety Officer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a vigilant Mine Safety Officer to ensure the highest standards of health and safety are maintained across their mining operations near Wolverhampton, West Midlands . This role is critical in promoting a proactive safety culture, conducting rigorous inspections, and developing comprehensive safety protocols. You will be instrumental in identifying potential hazards, implementing risk mitigation strategies, and ensuring compliance with all relevant safety legislation in the mining industry . The successful candidate will be a champion for safety, dedicated to protecting the well-being of all personnel on site.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and enforce site-specific health and safety plans.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of mining equipment, work areas, and procedures.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Deliver safety training programs and toolbox talks to all site personnel.
• Maintain safety records and ensure compliance with all national and local safety regulations.
• Advise management on safety matters and promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization.

Requirements

• Relevant certification in Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety role, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector .
• Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and best practices.
• Experience in conducting risk assessments and developing safety procedures.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and training skills.
• Ability to work independently and maintain a strong presence on site.
