Mine Ventilation Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a qualified and experienced Mine Ventilation Engineer to join their operational team in Brighton, East Sussex . This critical role focuses on designing, implementing, and managing ventilation systems to ensure safe and healthy underground working environments. You will be responsible for air quality monitoring, temperature control, and the design of fan and ducting systems, directly impacting worker safety and operational efficiency. This is a site-based position requiring regular presence at mining locations to oversee and optimize ventilation strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and optimize mine ventilation systems to provide adequate airflow, maintain air quality, and control dust and gases.
• Conduct regular site inspections and air quality monitoring to assess compliance with health and safety standards.
• Specify and select ventilation equipment, including fans, filters, and ducting, ensuring optimal performance and energy efficiency.
• Develop ventilation plans and strategies for both new mine development and existing operations.
• Collaborate with mine managers, safety officers, and other engineers to integrate ventilation requirements into overall mine planning.
• Investigate and resolve ventilation-related issues, ensuring prompt and effective solutions.

Requirements

• Degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline with a focus on ventilation.
• Proven experience in mine ventilation design and management, preferably in underground mining.
• Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and air quality control principles.
• Familiarity with mine safety regulations and standards related to ventilation.
• Proficiency in ventilation modeling software and measurement instruments.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills for effective site-based work.
