Mine Ventilation Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a specialized Mine Ventilation Engineer to join their team based in Portsmouth . This vital role ensures the safe and efficient operation of underground mining environments by designing, implementing, and maintaining effective ventilation systems. You will focus on air quality, temperature control, dust suppression, and the safe removal of gases to create optimal working conditions and comply with stringent health and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and specific challenges faced in underground mining ventilation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and optimize mine ventilation networks to ensure adequate airflow, temperature control, and contaminant dilution.
• Conduct surveys and monitoring of air quality, dust levels, and gas concentrations underground.
• Specify, install, and maintain ventilation equipment, including fans, ducting, and environmental controls.
• Develop and implement dust suppression and mine fire prevention strategies.
• Analyze ventilation system performance and recommend improvements for efficiency and safety.
• Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations related to mine ventilation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on ventilation.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in mine ventilation engineering, preferably in underground mining.
• Proficiency in mine ventilation modeling software (e.g., Ventsim, Minescape).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles.
• Knowledge of mine gases, dust control, and strata cooling techniques.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
