About the Role
Our client is seeking a qualified and dedicated Mine Ventilation Engineer to join their dynamic team in the Birmingham area. This role is critical for ensuring a safe and productive underground working environment by designing, implementing, and managing effective ventilation systems. You will play a key part in maintaining air quality, controlling dust and gases, and ensuring optimal thermal conditions within the mine. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with expertise in mine ventilation to apply their skills in a challenging yet rewarding setting, contributing to the operational efficiency and safety standards of a major mining operation, working closely with site management and operational teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize mine ventilation systems to ensure compliance with safety regulations and operational requirements.
- Conduct airflow surveys, dust monitoring, and gas analysis to assess environmental conditions.
- Specify, procure, and oversee the installation of ventilation equipment, including fans, ducting, and controls.
- Develop and implement strategies for heat management and dust suppression in underground environments.
- Collaborate with safety officers and mine managers to address ventilation-related hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of ventilation performance, surveys, and equipment maintenance.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in mine ventilation design and operations.
- In-depth knowledge of aerodynamics , thermodynamics, and contaminant transport in underground mines.
- Familiarity with ventilation simulation software (e.g., Ventsim, Minescape) and monitoring equipment.
- Strong understanding of relevant health and safety legislation pertaining to mining.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
