Mortgage Underwriter

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Mortgage Underwriter to join their team based in Bradford . You will be responsible for evaluating mortgage applications, assessing risk, and making sound lending decisions to ensure the company's portfolio remains secure and profitable. This role requires a strong understanding of mortgage products, financial analysis, and regulatory requirements. You will work collaboratively within the lending department to contribute to the company's success in a key regional hub.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and analyze mortgage loan applications, including borrower credit history, income verification, and property appraisals.
• Assess the risk associated with each application and determine eligibility for mortgage approval.
• Ensure all lending decisions comply with company policies, industry regulations, and legal requirements.
• Communicate effectively with loan officers, brokers, and borrowers regarding application status and requirements.
• Maintain accurate and complete loan documentation files.
• Stay up-to-date with changes in mortgage lending guidelines and market trends.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Mortgage Underwriter or in a similar lending role.
• In-depth knowledge of mortgage products, underwriting principles, and relevant legislation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Proficiency in mortgage origination software and MS Office Suite.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced office environment in Bradford .
