About the Role

Our client, a reputable mortgage lender in Portsmouth , is looking for a detail-oriented Mortgage Underwriter to join their team. This hybrid role involves evaluating loan applications to assess creditworthiness and determine risk. You will ensure that all loans meet the company's policies and regulatory requirements, playing a critical part in the mortgage lending process. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and a thorough understanding of mortgage lending guidelines. This position offers a blend of in-office collaboration and remote flexibility within the Hampshire area.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and analyze mortgage loan applications, including income, assets, liabilities, and credit history.
• Assess the risk associated with each loan application and make informed decisions on approval, denial, or conditional approval.
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and company lending regulations and policies.
• Communicate effectively with loan officers and brokers to gather necessary documentation and clarify loan details.
• Maintain accurate and complete loan files, documenting all underwriting decisions and rationale.
• Stay current with changes in lending regulations, market trends, and underwriting guidelines.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in a related field is a plus.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in mortgage underwriting or loan processing.
• Solid understanding of mortgage lending regulations (e.g., RESPA, TILA, HMDA).
• Proficiency in underwriting software and MS Office Suite.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
