About the Role
Our client is looking for a meticulous and experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join their lending team in Leeds . In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating loan applications, assessing risk, and making informed decisions on mortgage approvals. You will ensure adherence to company policies, regulatory guidelines, and lending standards while providing exceptional service to applicants and brokers. This position is essential to the smooth operation of the mortgage division and contributes directly to the company's lending portfolio growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze mortgage loan applications, including credit reports, financial statements, and property appraisals.
- Assess borrower creditworthiness and overall risk profile to determine loan eligibility.
- Ensure all underwriting decisions comply with company policies, investor guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate loan decisions, conditions, and requirements clearly to applicants and loan originators.
- Work collaboratively with loan officers and processors to resolve any discrepancies or issues.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of mortgage lending regulations and market trends.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Mortgage Underwriter , with a strong understanding of underwriting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of relevant lending regulations (e.g., RESPA, TILA, HMDA).
- Proficiency in using loan origination software and mortgage underwriting systems.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong decision-making capabilities and ability to manage a pipeline of applications.
