Job Description
Site Maintenance Engineer
Chard £44,500 + 20% Shift Allowance (c. £53,400) Monday to Friday, 6am-2pm / 2pm-10pm No Nights
Are you an electrically biased Maintenance Engineer looking for a well-paid shift position without the night shifts?
This is an opportunity to join an established industrial manufacturer in Chard, working within a varied engineering environment where you'll have real ownership of maintenance, breakdowns, reliability and improvement work across the site.
You'll be working across specialist production equipment and site infrastructure, combining hands-on electrical and mechanical fault-finding with PPMs, projects, equipment upgrades and continuous improvement.
The role would suit an engineer who enjoys solving problems independently and wants more involvement than simply working through a PPM schedule.
What you'll be doing
- Carrying out planned, preventative, predictive and reactive maintenance across production machinery and site equipment.
- Electrical fault-finding within control panels, including motors, relays, sensors and associated control equipment.
- Mechanical maintenance and repairs across conveyors, chain-driven equipment, pneumatics, hydraulics and associated machinery.
- Fault-finding on PLC-controlled equipment, including tracing inputs, outputs and control signals.
- Supporting equipment refurbishments, installations, upgrades and engineering improvement projects.
- Completing root cause analysis following breakdowns and identifying opportunities to prevent repeat failures.
- Managing maintenance activity through the site's CMMS.
- Supporting and coordinating specialist contractors when required.
- Maintaining engineering spares and helping ensure critical components are available when required.
- Working closely with production and site management to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
What we're looking for
- A recognised electrical qualification with good mechanical maintenance capabilities.
- Previous hands-on maintenance experience within manufacturing, production or a similar industrial environment.
- Strong electrical fault-finding skills and confidence working safely within industrial control systems.
- Good mechanical skills across motors, bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, chains, pneumatics and associated equipment.
- Experience with planned and reactive maintenance.
- Ability to fault-find PLC-controlled machinery. Programming experience isn't essential.
- Previous involvement with machinery installations, modifications, projects or continuous improvement would be advantageous.
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of engineering problems.
Engineers from manufacturing, FMCG, aerospace, automotive, metals, foundry, process or other industrial environments are encouraged to apply.
What's on offer?
- £44,500 basic salary + 20% shift allowance (c. £53,400 total)
- Rotating 6am-2pm / 2pm-10pm, with no routine night shifts
- 25 days annual leave + bank holidays
- Company pension scheme with matched contributions of up to 10%
- Life assurance
- Enhanced company sick pay
- Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing support
- Ongoing technical training and development
- Long-term career progression within a global engineering business
- Exposure to specialist industrial equipment, engineering projects and improvement work
- Free onsite parking
Some flexibility for callout, weekend and out-of-hours support is required as part of the wider engineering function.
