An urgent opportunity has arisen for an experienced NEC4 Supervisor (Build) to support a significant construction project based in Christchurch.

This role would particularly suit an experienced construction professional with a strong background in site inspection, quality assurance, workmanship standards and defects management.

We are especially interested in hearing from former UK Armed Forces personnel, particularly those who have served in construction, infrastructure, engineering or works supervisory appointments. Former military Clerks of Works are strongly encouraged to apply, as the inspection, assurance, technical standards and contractor-management experience gained in these roles is highly relevant.

The Role

Working full-time on site, you will perform the duties of the Supervisor under the NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC), providing assurance that construction activities, materials and workmanship meet the required contractual, technical and quality standards.

Key responsibilities will include regular site inspections and audits; witnessing inspections, tests, hold points and commissioning activities; monitoring workmanship against drawings, specifications and standards; identifying and managing defects; reviewing contractor quality documentation; maintaining accurate and auditable records; and supporting the Project Manager with contract administration and project delivery.

You will also work closely with contractors, designers, project teams and other stakeholders while maintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must be able to demonstrate:

• Sole UK nationality (must be born in the UK)

• Current security clearance – SC strongly preferred, BPSS is the minimum requirement

• Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Construction, Project Management or a related discipline

• NEC4 ECC Supervisor accreditation or demonstrable NEC4 Supervisor experience

• At least five years' relevant experience within construction, infrastructure, engineering, utilities, manufacturing or industrial projects

• Experience administering NEC3 or NEC4 contracts

• Strong practical experience of site inspection, quality assurance and defects management

• Experience working on major capital projects

• Relevant construction certification such as CSCS, SMSTS or SSSTS, where applicable

• Full driving licence

Former Military / Clerk of Works Experience

Your experience could be an excellent fit if you have served as a Clerk of Works, Works Supervisor, Construction Engineer, Infrastructure Specialist, Engineering Manager or in another appointment involving:

• Inspection and assurance of construction works

• Monitoring contractor workmanship

• Compliance against drawings, specifications and technical standards

• Snagging and defects management

• Testing, commissioning and acceptance

• Quality assurance and auditable record keeping

• Contractor and stakeholder management

• Working within highly regulated, safety-critical or secure environments

Military job titles do not always translate directly into their civilian equivalents. What matters here is the technical responsibility, construction knowledge, assurance capability and supervisory experience behind the title.

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

Additional experience or qualifications in the following would be advantageous:

ICE, CIOB, IET, APM or RICS membership | ISO 9001 | Lead/Internal Auditor qualifications | large-scale infrastructure | factory construction | energy | transportation | data centres | collaborative contracting environments
