Job Description
Our client, a leading entity in the defence and security manufacturing sector, is looking for an Optical Assembly Build Technician to join their dynamic new team in Farnborough. This full-time, permanent role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge defence technology and innovations, contributing to future-defining projects. You will be integral to delivering high-performance optical and optomechanical products that support advanced technologies in demanding applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Assemble, integrate and test precision optical and optomechanical products in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, and production requirements
Carry out optical alignment activities using specialised equipment, including lasers, alignment telescopes, and autocollimators
Perform mechanical and optical inspections using precision measurement equipment to ensure products meet quality and compliance standards
Maintain accurate manufacturing records, production documentation, and traceability within ERP/MRP and electronic production systems
Support troubleshooting, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement activities to optimise product quality and manufacturing efficiency
Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team while adhering to cleanroom procedures, health & safety requirements, and contamination control standards
Job Requirements:
Extensive experience in the assembly, integration, and testing of precision optomechanical assemblies
Proven ability to manufacture and assemble optomechanical products to specification using engineering drawings, work instructions, and electronic production systems
Experience in carrying out optical alignment, integration, and verification activities on precision optical and mechanical systems
Previous experience in an optomechanical, photonics, aerospace, defence, scientific instrumentation, or advanced manufacturing environment
Experience working within cleanrooms and controlled manufacturing environments, adhering to quality and safety standards
Experience using quality control processes, inspection methods, and revision-controlled manufacturing documentation
Essential Qualifications:
NVQ Level 3, Apprenticeship, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Photonics, Physics, or a related technical discipline
Evidence of formal technical training in precision manufacturing, engineering assembly or a related engineering field
Demonstrable ability to interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and technical documentation
Proven competency in the use of precision measurement and inspection equipment within a manufacturing environment
Understanding of quality standards, manufacturing documentation, and controlled production processes
Commitment to working in accordance with health & safety requirements and quality management systems within a regulated manufacturing environment
