About the Role
Our client is looking for an experienced Optical Network Engineer to join their advanced technology team in Cambridge . This role focuses on the design, implementation, and optimisation of high-capacity optical transport networks essential for modern telecoms services. You will work with state-of-the-art DWDM, OTN, and Ethernet technologies to build and maintain resilient and scalable networks that form the backbone of our operations. Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and deploy optical network equipment, including optical transport systems (OTS), DWDM, and OTN platforms.
- Perform network troubleshooting and fault resolution for optical transmission systems, ensuring minimal service disruption.
- Monitor network performance, analyse traffic patterns, and implement optimisation strategies.
- Develop and maintain network documentation, including schematics, configuration guides, and test procedures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on network planning, upgrades, and new service implementations.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in optical networking technologies and propose innovative solutions.
- Conduct site surveys and technical assessments for new network deployments or upgrades.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in designing, implementing, or supporting optical transport networks .
- Proficiency with DWDM, OTN, SONET/SDH, and carrier Ethernet technologies.
- Experience with optical test equipment and troubleshooting methodologies.
- Understanding of fibre optic principles and network topology.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
