Optical Network Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative Optical Network Engineer to contribute to their advanced network infrastructure in Manchester . This role focuses on the design, deployment, and optimization of high-capacity optical networks that form the backbone of modern telecommunications. You will work with state-of-the-art optical technologies, including DWDM, OTN, and fibre optic systems, ensuring the integrity and performance of critical data transmission links across the Greater Manchester region and beyond. Key Responsibilities

• Design and plan optical network architectures, considering capacity, scalability, and future growth requirements.
• Manage the deployment and integration of optical transmission equipment, such as optical amplifiers, transponders, and multiplexers.
• Perform network performance monitoring and analysis, identifying and resolving issues related to signal degradation or equipment malfunction.
• Develop and implement strategies for network resilience, disaster recovery, and business continuity for optical links.
• Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to evaluate new optical technologies and solutions.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices for optical network design and operation.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in optical network engineering , with a strong understanding of fibre optics and optical transmission systems.
• Proficiency in DWDM, OTN, coherent optics, and related technologies.
• Experience with optical power meters, OTDRs, and other fibre characterization tools.
• Knowledge of network management systems and protocols relevant to optical networks.
• A degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical field.
• Ability to travel occasionally for project deployment and site visits within Manchester and surrounding areas.
