Optical Network Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled Optical Network Engineer to join their team in Oxford . This role is crucial for the design, implementation, and maintenance of their high-capacity optical transport networks. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and scalability of their fibre optic infrastructure, supporting critical business services. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of optical networking technologies, DWDM, and related transmission systems, contributing to the backbone of their sophisticated telecoms network.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and deploy optical network equipment, including DWDM systems, ROADMs, and optical amplifiers.
• Monitor network performance and troubleshoot optical transmission issues, ensuring minimal service disruption.
• Perform capacity planning and network upgrades to meet growing bandwidth demands.
• Develop and maintain network documentation, including optical path diagrams and equipment configurations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate optical networks with other transport and access technologies.

Requirements

• Proven experience as an Optical Network Engineer or in a related telecommunications role.
• In-depth knowledge of DWDM, OTN, SONET/SDH , and fibre optic technologies.
• Experience with optical network design tools and performance monitoring systems.
• Strong understanding of network protocols and troubleshooting methodologies.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
