About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Optical Network Engineer to join their innovative team, operating remotely to support operations in Sunderland and surrounding areas. This role is integral to the design, implementation, and optimisation of our client's fibre optic network infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring the high performance, availability, and scalability of our optical transport networks, contributing to the delivery of cutting-edge connectivity solutions. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a deep understanding of optical networking principles, with the flexibility to work from a home-based office.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and plan optical network architectures, ensuring scalability and resilience.
- Configure and deploy optical equipment, including DWDM, OTN, and ROADM systems.
- Monitor optical network performance, identify degradations, and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct network testing and troubleshooting to resolve faults and optimize signal quality.
- Collaborate with planning, field operations, and customer support teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for optical network designs and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in designing and managing optical transport networks .
- Strong knowledge of WDM technologies, including DWDM , CWDM, and associated protocols.
- Experience with fibre optic testing equipment and methodologies.
- Familiarity with network management systems and NMS/OSS integration.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to work independently in a remote setting.
