About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Optical Network Engineer to join their expanding team in Edinburgh . This role focuses on the design, deployment, and optimisation of optical fibre networks, critical for delivering high-speed telecommunications services. You will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability, capacity, and performance of our optical infrastructure, working with state-of-the-art technology. Key Responsibilities
- Design and plan optical network architectures, including DWDM, OTN, and PON systems.
- Oversee the installation, commissioning, and testing of optical network equipment and fibre optic cables.
- Monitor network performance and proactively identify and resolve optical transmission issues.
- Develop and maintain accurate network documentation, including schematics, as-built drawings, and test results.
- Collaborate with project managers and field technicians to ensure timely and successful network deployments.
- Stay abreast of advancements in optical networking technologies and propose innovative solutions.
Requirements
- Proven experience in optical network design, implementation, and maintenance.
- Strong understanding of optical transport technologies such as DWDM, CWDM, OTN, and GPON/EPON.
- Proficiency with optical test equipment and troubleshooting techniques.
- Experience with network planning tools and CAD software for network design.
- Knowledge of fibre optic cable management, splicing, and testing procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team and independently in Edinburgh .
