Petroleum Geologist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented Petroleum Geologist to join their exploration team based in Leeds . You will play a key role in identifying and evaluating potential hydrocarbon resources, working with large datasets to define exploration prospects and appraise existing fields within the UK and international basins. This position offers the opportunity to contribute significantly to the company's growth strategy through detailed geological analysis, prospect mapping, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The role requires a strong understanding of depositional environments, structural controls, and petroleum systems, grounded in meticulous data interpretation and a passion for discovery.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret seismic, well log, and core data to identify and map potential hydrocarbon reservoirs .
• Conduct detailed geological studies of sedimentary basins, focusing on depositional environments and structural evolution.
• Develop and refine geological models to support exploration drilling and field development planning.
• Evaluate prospectivity and quantify potential reserves and resources for new ventures.
• Collaborate closely with reservoir engineers and geophysicists to integrate geological interpretations into comprehensive subsurface models.
• Prepare clear and concise geological reports and presentations for internal review and external partners.

Requirements

• Degree in Geology or Geophysics, with a specialization in Petroleum Geology preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in petroleum exploration or development geology.
• Proficiency in using geological interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom, GoCad).
• Solid understanding of sequence stratigraphy, structural geology, and petroleum systems analysis.
• Experience with data management and quality control processes for geological data.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
